The Construction of Urban Ground Resort & Residence
Born out of an era of gay politics that enraged unfortunately under the Obama Administration but began well before Barack Obama and has continued beyond former President Barack Obama, Urban Ground Resort & Residence first began as Urban Ground Bar & Grill as an alternative to Hamburger Mary’s a pre-existing LGBTQ friendly bar and grill and the idea for Urban Ground Bar & Grill began as a counterpart to fill a void within the Los Angeles urban gay demographic. In or around 2012, many of the Los Angeles area gay establishments that catered to the black, gay, urban experience were closed for various reasons, and as of this date, to our knowledge, there remains no major, dedicated, regional, or centralized space for the black gay urban experience in Los Angeles.
Due to an overwhelming response Village Resorts Hospitality Group, LLC, based out of Los Angeles, California, further developed Urban Ground Bar & Grill into what they now call “the world’s first Vegas-styled gay resort” as an alternative and a first choice destination for gay black men and the broader gay community.
Branded as the ultimate gay experience, Urban Ground Resort & Residence has grown into the ultimate gay experience. What first began as Urban Ground Bar & Grill has become a luxurious Vegas-styled gay resort and private gay residence open to guests 18 years of age and older to experience the amenities, services, and attractions of a premier resort destination featuring premium showcase events, live entertainment, a shopping promenade, an entertainment district, a man-made beach, a Cineplex, a Redlight district, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, hotels, resorts, and more. Plus, a private gay residential community for up to 46 thousand residents makes Urban Ground Resort & Residence a premier gay destination.
On April 26, 2023, the President of Village Resorts Hospitality Group, LLC, Oliver B. Mitchell III, announced due to continued litigation, he had decided to reduce the number of future public advertisements, promotions, and updates regarding the development and construction of Urban Ground Resort & Residence until the conclusion of court action and litigation or until further notice, but on June 1, 2023, Urban Ground Resort, LLC, made a soft announcement regarding the future construction of Urban Ground Resort & Residence saying “while final site selection had yet to be disclosed, Village Resorts Hospitality Group, were prepared to offer a record construction deal where Urban Ground Resort, LLC, owner of Urban Ground Resort & Residence is offering a $90,000,000 million dollar construction bonus upon completion of the construction of Urban Ground Resort & Residence.
At the start of construction, Village Resorts Hospitality Group, LLC, along with 9,000 dedicated and professional trade workers, will transform over 1,000 acres of land into a new recreational and tourist destination to promote recreation, tourism, working, lodging, and housing accommodations within the gay demographic.
Mr. Mitchell, President of Village Resorts Hospitality Group, LLC, a gay African American man himself, says, “This groundbreaking event marks the start of a new era within the gay community and that he stands firm and committed to offering an environment for all future residents and Guests that is free from fear, oppression, and social indignity. Curated as the first of its kind in the world first curated for the gay black male demographic first, due to religious and historical discrimination, homophobia, stigma, and discrimination can be especially hard for black men who are gay and bisexual who maintain relationships with men and have sex with men. These negative attitudes can increase their chances of experiencing violence, including bullying, teasing, harassment, physical assault, and suicide-related behaviors, and while Urban Ground Resort & Residence may warmly welcome others, they are, by tradition, a gay resort, and at their sole discretion, Urban Ground Resort & Residence will be made available to the “broader” LGBTQ community as we are a gay-established establishment.”
In the weeks ahead, Village Resorts Hospitality Group are planning a special town hall event in the Los Angeles area, open to the community to discuss their record-breaking announcement and the significance of Urban Ground Resort & Residence as several phases of construction are expected to be completed by winter 2026.
